What a wonderful experience. Occasionally you get the chance to see and feel things like a local and not a tourist, and this is one of those times. We decided to go for the entire 3 night epicurean experience. Francesca and Mac had organized the most amazing time for us. First you drive up to this little village in the mountains and then get invited into the family’s everyday way of life. The kids, the pets, cousins, uncles and aunts and even family members who may be in the nearby villages all are involved in your experience. From the truffle hunting, to the endless food - breakfast, lunch, dinner - pasta making, sausage making and every other little detail they put together was wonderful. Francesca is so knowledgeable about the history and culture that has been passed down many generations in their family. The accommodations are wonderful. Relaxing, comfortable, peaceful and surrounded by natural beauty. I would highly recommend treating yourself to this trip if you want to travel and not be a tourist.

If my doctor told me I had three days left to live, I would spend them at the Black Truffle Lodge. Francesca and her family created an experience that only exists in fairy tales. I cannot wait to breathe the Pettino air again.

A fantastic experience with Francesca and her family…they’ve owned this property for almost 1000 years- a real working farm (lots of animals) and extremely comfortable lodgings. You won’t believe the whirlpool in the spa-bathroom. Truffle hunting in the morning, scrambled eggs with those truffles, served in the open field with the sheep and their huge white wolf dog protectors, some Prosecco and homemade cheese, and a beautiful border collie to keep all the sheep in line! Cooking lessons, delicious food, generous offers of wine, lots of companionship and interesting explanations of the lifestyle, traditions and Italian culture. Molto grazie, tutti! How soon can I come back?

Francesca & Mac offer a stay and experience like no other! You feel at home the minute you arrive. Their staff treat you like you are the most important guests in the world. They are so easy to talk to, and the knowledge they have to share, is so satisfying. We learned so much in regards to truffle hunting. Luca was a great guide and we felt like best friends by the time we were done. Of course the two puppies were excited and energetic to do their owner proud! Making our way to the hills where the shepherd, sheep dogs and sheep were, was an absolute pleasure to watch. Luca prepared scrambled eggs with shaved truffles that were found - AMAZING!!!
The aperitifs were great, and the meals were even better! We were so full - we could hardly move. The two story, fully renovated 1400’s cow barn was something out of a magazine. No expenses were spared to give their guests a five star stay! We highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience at the Black Truffle Lodge as it’s one you won’t forget. After taking a honeymoon cruise that began in Barcelona and ended in Rome, I wanted to do something unique and came across The Black Truffle Lodge. While I enjoyed our cruise, it could never compare to the experience we had here. We took a train from Rome and got off at the station in Spoleto (approx 1.5 hour train ride), where we were picked up immediately by our friendly driver and driven another 30 minutes to what could only be described as heaven on earth. Once at the lodge, we were greeted by Francesca and her staff and offered wine while we discussed our accommodations, the schedule of our meals and most importantly - the info for the next days truffle hunt. When we arrived in our room (one of two on site), I was absolutely blown away. It was rustic, but with all of the modern luxuries including the largest indoor spa I have ever seen in a single room.||I don't think I have ever had such amazing meals and as restful sleep as I did at this lodge. The truffle hunt was an add-on, but a must-do while visiting (I will review that separately since it was such a unique experience in itself). When we departed after only staying for one night, I felt a deep sadness that we couldn't stay longer due to our time available, but I 100% expect to return. Next time we will stay for a lot longer!!! I consider everyone we met on this trip a Friend for Life...|

The experience was beyond what we could possibly have expected. The rooms are exceptionally cozy with incredible amenities.

The food and hospitality was incredible. Everything was grown or raised on property, and was outstanding. The truffle hunting experience was fantastic.

After a two week trip through Tuscany and Umbria, this was our favorite stop.
