A group of 5 of us stayed at La Fontana in October. The setup of the house worked well because we had 1 couple and three singles. The house and grounds were very charming and we loved spending breakfast before heading out for the day with the kitchen window wide open to an amazing view. We cooked almost all dinners at the house and the cookware and dishes were adequate, but the stove was really quite small. I think this likely is the case for any home in the area, however. We spent most evenings sitting in the kitchen talking, drinking wine, cooking and listening to the eclectic array of CDs in the house. (The outside space would have been perfect as well another time of year.) Amelia was a charming town but big enough to have some more modern amenities. For example, we would shop at the butcher, cheese shop, bakery, etc., but could also just pop into a large grocery store when needed. ||We were limited in our group in Italian with one having a little base, another good menu Italian and the rest of us with zero. The care taker had limited English, but we could figure things out with him just fine, even those of us without any Italian. We made our way through Amelia and the other towns fine as well.||The only criticism for us of La Fontana was really the location, which ultimately, was not that big a deal. We did a day trip just about every day, but it also meant around a 45 minute drive one way. Towns may not be incredibly far, but we had to take our time on the winding roads. They did offer a fantastic view, however. The drive into the house and the space to park was a little crazy, but we got pretty good at a manual transmission and steep hills!

“Spent a week in La Fontana with my family and some friends of our grown up children. This is a great family vacation, as it is sufficiently spacious for us not to be on top of each other during the day, [has an outhouse where the younger ones could hang, a great pool down a long flight of stairs, [so not ideal for people with mobility issues]. In the evening we congregated around the terrace for magic dinners by candle light and it was a little midsummer night dream.||||The farm house is beautiful, it is obviously NOT you standard rental property, with IKEA furniture. It is tastefully furnished with antiques and many of the owners property. It is an authentic farm house of some 600 years ago, built on a bluff and very secluded, and has been truly tastefully renovated, so it has lost none of its charm, but is very very comfortable. Very efficient wireless access, library of DVD’s books and Cable TV for any rainy day. You definitely need a car, as you are 2.2 kms from the nearest supermarket. [There are plenty in the charming hill town of Amelia]. ||||We visited Amelia, and found it truly charming, has a beautiful Theatre, which was designed by the same Architect as “La Fenice” in Venice. The Museum is very interesting for a small town as it has many interesting archeological finds from what is reputed as the oldest continuously inhabited town in Italy.||||We spent a wonderful few days touring the nearby jewels of Spoleto, and Orvieto and Lago Bolsena. We even took a trip to Castelluccio di Norcia, on the owners suggestion. Magic pictures we took, [enclosed]. Our grown up children had a wonderful day rafting on the Nera, as we hung out at a nearby mill and had a superb meal.||||In short we had an absolutely great holiday and will come back, and may take one of Philip’s archeological tours of Sicily which he runs from a yacht.”

We loved our time in Amelia staying in this historic and authentic farm house! Beautiful terrace overlooking olive groves with a sweeping view of the valley. The house is beautifully furnished and appointed with all of the modern touches (hi definition tv's, wifi, satellite cable) that we come to depend on. The hill town of Amelia is charming and there are lot's of activities in the area. It is just 20 miles to Orvieto and also not far from Cortona -- a great home base for exploring one of the most beautiful places in Italy.

A lovely "Family" home in the country, but walking distance to town for the hardy. Love European living, style and flavor? Villa La Fontana has just the right ambiance. Centrally located in Italy you have many options to see the country. Having a car is a real plus for site seeing and dining out but Rome is just a train ride away and one can spend the day. Your train ticket is good all day and includes trips on the subway and buses. Maybe you just want to relax and enjoy the Villa and its surroundings: the house is beautifully furnished, the garden is lovely and the swimming pool very private. A dream vacation for spirited souls. Delightful!

November at La Fontana. We staid during the Olive harvest and spent a wonderful time in the olive grove picking olives in the organic "garden". Some of these trees are over 200 years old, all gnarled and look like the Yents in the "Lord of the Rings".||||Amelia is a funny town, still has an artisans feel to it, and we travelled around and visited various wineries and took the olive we had collected to the "Frantoio" or olive press. There was no swimming pool in November but was still a great out of season holiday.

The farm house has a lovely setting. It is peaceful, quiet, and the view across the valley is enchanting. The bedrooms were comfortable, the baths were well appointed, and the kitchen was well equipped. Everything was so clean and tidy when we arrived. We enjoyed cooking and relaxing in the house.
